So in French, I’m reading this play named Rhinocéros and in one of the scenes, one man calls another man, “Une espèce d’Asiatique.”
Do you know what that means
Literally, it means, “An Asian species,” but out of context, “une espèce de __” means “a dirty ____” or “A piece of ____” so, in essence, he insults a man by calling him “A dirty Asian.”

It was so awkward talking about it in class
Madame just kept looking at my Asian friends and I and laughing because it was racist
Then I went to lunch and called my friend, “Une espèce de merde.” :)
